International Women's Day: Women and men can both be successful in the tech industry
To celebrate International Women’s Day this year, we are talking to the fantastic female colleagues in our Data and Technology teams about the benefits of working in the technology sector and what we can do to encourage more women to take up roles in this field.
I started my career in tech after graduating in Cyber Security. I have always had an interest in computing and really enjoyed my university course learning all about Technology and the cyber security involved. Technology is growing more and more integrated into our daily lives as time goes on; it's fascinating, ever evolving, and brings with it new discoveries. It’s a profession with so much to learn and every day is unique and full of challenges.
It can be a little intimidating for women to pursue careers in technology as they aren't typically associated with the field. My advice to them would be to be confident and believe in yourself and your abilities. Women and men can both be successful in the tech industry.
I think more women should hold positions of leadership. Their achievements inspire others to aim higher. More girls would be inspired to consider careers in technology if they saw successful women in this field.
International Women’s Day is a day honoured to women. It’s a day where all women are recognised for their achievements regardless of their nationality, ethnicity, language, culture, economic status, or political affiliation. It’s about women coming together and sharing those accomplishments and being able to be proud of their success.
