Why do you think it is important to celebrate IWD and what does it mean to you?

To celebrate the achievements of women in our personal and professional lives, reflecting on the many positives so far and strive for further improvements in women’s equality.

Have you faced any barriers in your career due to being a woman and how did you overcome them?

Not personally, on a conscious level, but continue to see barriers placed before women in the workplace, whether this is women re-entering the workforce after having a child, long-term illness, carer responsibilities or career breaks.

What changes would you like to see for the next generation?

Women possess many of the qualities to be great leaders – integrity, empathy, and resilience. I would like to see more diversity in the workplace, at a senior management level.

What is the best piece of advice you have been given?

The motto that sits proudly on the wall in my office and has served me well “Work Hard and Be Nice to People”

Can you tell me about a female role model who has inspired you over your career?

No one female role model but I have been extremely lucky to be surrounded by some amazing women; family members, friends, and work colleagues.

What are you most proud of in your career?

Working at NOE CPC for the last 8+ years has given me the opportunity to progress in my career significantly. I do feel that without the support and encouragement of my female family members, friends, and colleagues, I would not be in the role now and continuing to strive to develop further.

It is also refreshing, as a line manager to young women starting out, to see them gain the skills and confidence to progress in their careers.

What was your dream career when you were a child?

Sports Journalism but interestingly my male careers advisor did not actively encourage that route…..

Why do you think diversity in the workplace is so important?

Diversity drives understanding and respect and encourages people to have exposure to people, cultures and views that differ from your own. As my late grandad used to regularly say “Love, it wouldn’t do for us all to be the same”.
